Reader Babes!
Today’s the day. Honorable Sins is finally here!
I’ve been looking forward to this day for a very long time. I have been absolutely itching to put this story into your hands. I adore Mick and Kara, and getting to spend more time with them six years after Sins of Arrogance has been every bit as rewarding as I’d hoped it would be.
But this book marks something I’ve been working toward for a very long time too: my 100th published novel!
I planned and worked toward this day from the first manuscript; I dreamed about it long before it became reality. But what I couldn’t possibly have planned for was you.
I couldn’t have predicted the way readers would laugh with my characters, cry with them, argue with them, recommend them to friends, or write to me to tell me one of my books got them through a difficult time. Or how so many of you would keep coming back every time I had another story to tell.
Looking back at my books, I’m proud of the stories I’ve written. But I’m in awe of the connection to readers those stories have given me.
I wrote Honorable Sins as a gift. A gift to you because so many of you fell in love with Mick and Kara in Sins of Arrogance and asked me what happened next. And, if I’m being completely honest, a gift to myself too.
I wanted to see what Mick and Kara’s life looked like six years later. I wanted to meet the children we’d only imagined before. Did they have the little girl they both wanted? Did they adopt any more four-legged friends? Did Kara’s love and fatherhood to four chisselers mellow Mick?
Spoiler alert: the answer is no to that one. He’s every bit as possessive, protective and gloriously obsessive as he was before. The only difference is that now there are four children benefiting from that particular brand of devotion along with Kara.
Poor Fitz. Puberty is hard enough without Mick Fitzgerald for a father. 🤣 Or so you’d think, but Fitz has it dialed in and sees his dad for who Mick truly is, while looking up to him in a way that melted my heart.
One of my favorite moments in the entire book isn’t a confrontation between rival mobsters or one of the twists in the external plot, or even one of the tender family moments. It’s a scene between Mick and Kara. In Sins of Arrogance, trust was something they were still figuring out. Now Kara gives Mick something she never could have in the beginning: not blind trust, but absolute trust, freely chosen.
Because these two are still Mick and Kara, that moment is equal parts emotional and very, very spicy.
I’ve always believed that happily ever after are really happy beginnings. Life doesn’t stop after the last page. Love keeps growing. Families change. Children get older. New challenges arrive. And sometimes we get the chance to go back and see what forever actually looks like.
If you’ve ever closed a favorite book wishing you could spend just a little more time with the couple before you said goodbye, this story was written for you.
